10 Year Old Detects Exploit in Social Mobile Games

August 8th, 2011 by Arjan Olsder Posted in Platforms: AndroidOS, Platforms: iOS | 1 Comment »

Over the past two years, there have been lots of developers that created Farmville-like mobile games. A 10-year old kid showed how to manipulate those games at Defcon.

The exploit works by manipulating the internal clock in devices while shutting down all data connections. As the software can’t check time with the servers, it will accept the new time entered, thus allowing gamers to harvest their credits at a much higher rate.

The hacker did not expose which games are vulnerable, but by attracting the world press, many folks will start to test this case.

funny, but i’m pretty sure the status would be reset once the game checks for updates with the server though.
