The Daily Launches with Paid Subscriptions on iTunes

February 3rd, 2011 by Arjan Olsder Posted in Platforms: iOS | No Comments »

Rupert Murdoch has finally launched the much rumored iPad magazine The Daily. Apple will charge 14 cents a day and will launch a new edition every day at noon (EST). The launch is limited to the US however.

The app is packed with social features and editors will be live editing the editions, meaning traffic and weather updates will happen even after you purchased your edition. Furthermore there are various multi-media features available like 360 panorama’s, graphs and puzzles. Every edition will hold about 100 pages, which is a lot for a daily paper.

Preparations for the launch of The Daily has demanded $13 million spread mainly over the past six weeks. Over 100 journalists are working on the project

Because Apple doesn’t really charge 14 cents a day, consumers have the option to get a $0,99 weekly or $39,99 annual subscription. The first two weeks are free, sponsored by Verizon.

It is to be expected that subscriptions for apps will roll out soon, but there is no official announcement yet.
