Nokia Shifting High-End Handsets to Linux?

December 8th, 2008 by Arjan Olsder Posted in Platforms: Linux | No Comments »

Nokia
According to Reuters, Nokia's Ukko Lappalainen has confirmed that the company is exploring the possibilities to run Linux on their high end mobile phones instead of good old Symbian.

Nokia already has some experience in developing hardware for Linux through it's internet tablet division. Ukko also stated that Nokia would (if they DO go Linux) probably launch their own Linux distribution. So that makes Android a big No-No to the company.

With the acquisition of Trolltech earlier this year, we can't say this move is a total surprise. Yet, Jerry Panagrossi from Symbian is still saying that Symbian remains better then Linux.
